What were the conditions of the annexation agreement for Texas to join the US in
1845 - ANSWERS-Texas got to keep it's public lands, but the US will not repay
their debts. This was important because no other state got to do this.



Republic of Texas, 1836 - ANSWERS-Written under duress while Santa Anna was
on his way. It was a copy of the US constitution, basically. Allowed slavery. Texas
didn't want to be annexed into US because they wanted slavery.



Texas State Constitution of 1845 - ANSWERS-This is for when Texas joined the
union. Polk was president during this time. This was important because the US
was allowed to maintain it's public lands. We were allowed this so we could pay
off our debts from being our own Republic. Texas was allowed to break up into 4
states, if population got too big.



EJ Davis Radical Republican - ANSWERS-Was governor that the Radical
Republicans established. He shaped Texas history more than anyone else in the 5
years that he was governor. He created his own police force, ruled Texas like a
tyrant, put us into a lot of debt. He did so much to damage the Republican name
in Texas that no Republican governor was elected into office until 1978.
Democrats controlled 1873-2003.



Constitution of 1876 - ANSWERS-Governor Coke called for a constitutional
convention. Had 4 goals:

1. strong popular control of government (voters)

, 2. powers were to be limited

3. restrain spending- put % limits on the the things we spend. Restrain debt too.

4. Promote agriculture interests- got rid of Branch Banking, regulate railroads.
