Module 4- Lab Notes
The human skeleton is divided into:
1. Axial Skelton
2. Appendicular Skeleton
The total bones in the entire skeleton is approximately 206, it can vary
because of human anatomy.
The axial skeleton consists of the skull, the vertebral column, ribcage and
the sternum.
The axial skeleton also includes the bones in the air called the auditory
ossicles and a small floating bone in our neck called the hyoid bone.

axial skeleton.

There are markings on the skull called sutures.
Coronal Suture- the suture that runs across the skull

Midsagittal Suture- the suture that goes down the middle of the skull
Recall “sagittal” means a body or cavity is divided into two halves.
Midsagittal- means the body or cavity is divided into two equal halves.
Lambdoidal Suture- located posteriorly or on the back of the skull

Squamosal Suture- located on the side of the skull
