Formation of Secondary Pollutants - ANS -can be formed by photochemical reactions
-in the presence of sunlight, secondary pollutants are formed when primary pollutants undergo a
variety of reactions with other chemicals already present in the atmosphere.
Incomplete Combustion - ANS When combustion isn't completed, meaning that part of the
carbon isn't oxidized producing soot or carbon monoxide

Stratospheric Ozone - ANS protects us from harmful UV rays
Tropospheric Ozone - ANS some (higher) helps contribute to the greenhouse effect. Ground
ozone is harmful to living things.
Negative Effects of tropospheric ozone - ANS -oxidizing: ozone is a toxic gas and an oxidizing
agent (causes an extra O to attach)
-damage to plants: ozone absorbed into plants through leaves, degrades chlorophyll, reduces
photosynthesis therefore productivity)
-damage to humans: reduces action in lungs, increases susceptibility to infection, eye, throat
and nose irritation.
-damage to materials: attacks rubber, cellulose and some plastics, reduces life of car tires,
bleaches fabrics
