Arbitration (Process) Right Ans - Timeline and Process
1) Club must tender UPC to each player it desires to retain on its reserve list
(40 man) by December 12.
A. The club's offer to a player may not be less than 80% of the player's salary
and bonuses the previous year or less than 70% of his salary and bonuses
from 2 years earlier. (exception if won arb. Award previous season which
increased his salary 50% or more).
B. if not tendered a K then immediately a FA.
Arbitration (Filing and Exchange Date) Right Ans - A. Mid January... eligible
players may file for salary arbitration... club submits theirs three days later.
B. Article VI(E)(2).
C. Player and Club exchange their salary figures on exchange date.
Arbitration (Hearing and Decision) Right Ans - a. Article VI(E)(13)
b. Hearings scheduled 2/1 - 2/20
c. Each party has 1 hour to argue case and 30 minutes for rebuttal. The player
is required to attend and generally represented by agent. Club executive or
attorney represents the club.
d. Criteria the panel may consider:
i. Player's contribution to the club in terms of performance and
leadership;
ii. The club's record and attendance;
iii. "special accomplishments";
iv. salaries of comparable players in his MLS time class;
