To tackle this issue, extensive changes are needed, such as improved staff compensation and working conditions, strengthened oversight and accountability systems, and a dedication to maintaining moral principles. Abstract

Tasked with Maintaining public safety, enforcing the law, and promoting offender rehabilitation,

the corrections system is an essential part of the criminal justice system (Gaines, 2017). The

harsh, sometimes violent, corrective techniques of the past and the more sophisticated, nuanced

strategies of today are strikingly different from one another, as history demonstrates. The

development of correctional methods mirrors changes in societal perceptions of crime and

punishment, from the public executions and corporal punishments of antiquity to the penitentiary

models of the 19th century (Chowdhry, 2024). This intricate system also faces many difficulties

that reduce its efficacy. An unstable atmosphere is caused by extreme overcrowding, a lack of

rehabilitation programs, and the existence of security threat groups, which are frequently made

worse by unethical behavior. Correctional officers, who are essential to keeping the peace, may

unintentionally exacerbate these problems by misbehaving, being careless, or working together.

Corruption in prisons creates a culture that these systemic issues, extensive reforms are needed to

improve officer training, boost transparency, and put strong anti-corruption measures in place.

The objectives of corrections, which are to protect society and reform offenders, have not

changed much over time, but tactics and ideologies that support these goals have (Gaines, 2017).

The investigation that follows explores how racial profiling interacts with the fundamental

operations, procedures, underlying ideologies, corruption and subculture to sustain systemic

disparities in the criminal justice system, providing a unique viewpoint on this important but

frequently misunderstood facet of society.
