CRNA Interview Questions With Correct
Answers.

Why do you want to be a CRNA? - answer✔✔When my brother had an emergent
appendectomy, it was a CRNA who held his my mother's hand and supported them while
waiting in pre-op. She provided emotional support not only to my brother, but to my family as
well. I aim to become just like her and be there for my patient and their family to support them in
a vulnerable time in their lives.

Tell us about yourself - answer✔✔I am a 28 year old male with approximately 3.5 years of
critical care experience out of my 4 year nursing experience. I am currently employed as a RN III
at Long Beach Medical Center as a Cardiac Critical Care nurse. My favorite aspects of critical
care nursing is the one to one nursing care, and the constant vigilance to anticipate and prevent
what may happen with our patients.

What do you see as your role - answer✔✔Currently as a critical care nurse, I see my role as my
patient's advocate in many ways than one. I advocate for my patients to ensure they are getting
the care they need whether it is following up regarding lab results, performing routine nursing
care, or staying constantly vigilant as the momentum changes very quickly in the critical care at
any moment.

As a nurse in our unit, I see my role as being a team player. Ensuring that no nurse is drowning
from their workload, whether by performing tasks for their other patient when one of their
patients are crashing. Also, by being flexible for staffing purposes, absorbing another
assignment, or giving my assignment away to gain another to care for critically ill patient that no
one else can.

As a senior nurse in our unit, I see my role as role model, mentor, and source of knowledge. As a
mentor, I train new to specialty nurses, or precept students. I am humbled and honored that our
newer cardiac critical care nurses look for me for advice in situations they are unfamiliar with.
Albeit that I know there are so many things that I do not know, I am surprised that my experience
and knowledge are helpful to them.

I believe the roles I performed as a critical care nurse would transition greatly into becoming a
nurse anesthetist.

Discuss a mistake you made and how you resolved it - answer✔✔During our critical care
rounds, I was under the impression that the team wanted palliative care consulted on our status
post arrest patient. And so I had placed a verbal order from our critical care physician regarding
palliative care.
Why did you choose this program? What do you know about this program? -
answer✔✔Professors are practicing CRNAs. Low student to faculty ratio. DNP program.
Familiar clinical sites as a LA graduate.
top 10 CRNA program per US News Report.

What are your strengths/weaknesses? - answer✔✔Strengths: hard working, team oriented,
vigilant
weakness: I have been told my room is not clean whenever I go on break, I believe that I work
well with chaos, but I do understand what they mean. If the person breaking me cannot find
supplies immediately when my patient is deteriorating then it is not optimal. I have been working
on ensuring that my rooms are clean for anyone to be able to find what they need very quickly.
I constantly strive to work on organizing my rooms so that anyone who comes in would know
where things are.
Also, I strive to learn how to not to be too critical of myself when something goes array.

How do you handle stress? - answer✔✔Stress brought on by a very sick patient is different from
stress preparing for this interview. While in the moment of caring for the patient, 100% of my
attention is at the current situation... what I can I do to help my patient? Did I miss something?
Where are we heading? Stress at that time is nonexistent. Stress then comes after shift, when I
look back during my shift and think of what else I couldve have done, and what did I learn. I
have curated a mindset that I leave work stress at work or at least try not to overthink things.

What kind of patients do you take care of? Your favorite and why?** - answer✔✔

Do you foresee any barriers to your education? (finances, time commitments) - answer✔✔

: Tell us about your work experience.** - answer✔✔i have been a nurse for approximately 4
years, in which I spent 3.5 years in critical care. I started as a new graduate nurse in an critical
care. I am currently working at a 15 bed cardiac critical care, where we mainly provide care for
s/p cardiothoracic patients, NSTEMI and STEMI patients.

What questions do you have for us?** - answer✔✔As a someone who utilizes ultrasound with
peripheral IV insertion, how much would I be able to utilize this knowledge in regional
anesthesia or blocks? Are there plenty of opportunities to utilize ultrasound with regional
anesthesia or blocks within your program
