Explain the following terms and concepts?
Anatomic Position - ANSWER:Defines the specific surfaces and planes of the body.
Upright position with arms abducted slightly (down), palms forward, and head and
feet directed straight ahead.
Sagittal Plane - ANSWER:Longitudinal plane that divides the body into right and left
parts.
Midsagittal Plane - ANSWER:Also called the median plane. Midline sagittal plane that
divides the body into equal right and left parts. It passes through the sagittal suture
of the skull.
Coronal Plane - ANSWER:Any longitudinal plane that divides the body into anterior
and posterior parts.
Midcoronal Plane - ANSWER:Divides the body into the approximately equal anterior
and posterior parts. It passes through the coronal suture of the skull.
Horizontal Plane - ANSWER:Any transverse plane that passes through the body at
right angles to a longitudinal plane, dividing the body into superior and inferior

when viewed from the front. Tops of feet and the fronts or palms of the hands.
Plantar - ANSWER:Sole or posterior surface of the foot.
Dorsal - ANSWER:Top or anterior surface of the foot. (Dorsum Pedis)
Back or posterior aspect of the hand (Dorsum Manus).
Palmar - ANSWER:Palm of the hand; same as anterior or ventral surface of the hand.
