Ethical Decision-Making Draft Paper
Ethical decision-making in the workplace is widely affected by the emotions of those in
the workplace. The place of work that will be looked into further throughout this essay is
forensic psychology. This form of psychology is the interaction of the practice or study of
psychology and the law. Psychologists may work in jails, rehabilitation centers, police
departments, law firms, schools, government agencies or in private practice. As a criminal
psychologist, one must maintain the utmost amount of professionalism, integrity, and respect for
their work at one time. As a forensic psychologist, one must be able to work with people who
were or are involved in a case and be able to analyze the possible suspects to be able to find the
guilty party. One ethical dilemma that a forensic psychologist could encounter is a breach of
confidentiality. If a partnering psychologist were speaking on the phone about a case in specifics
this would then cause an ethical issue to arise. For example, John is working on a forensic case
that is keeping him working longer hours and being away from home. John’s wife calls and asks
when he will be getting home. John goes on to explain that the case he is working on its taking
more time than he thought. Johns wife questions as to why this case in particular is taking longer
than any other case he has worked on. John goes on to explain the details of the case and what he
has to. Now, although this is John’s wife, she is still not allowed to know specific of any cases
that are under investigation. John should not be speaking out about his case due to the
confidentiality of his client. This would be unethical because one is to not break the rules of
confidentiality between clients and professionals, as well as share one case with another
psychologist.
