SKIM the passage; read/highlight the following:
•title: this will give you a basic idea what the selection is about
•introduction usually in italics: not all selection have an introduction, but if
there is one, you should read it
•headings/subheadings: these can help you see where specific information is
located in the selection
•key words in boldface, italic print, or capital letters
•sidebars: these give extra information that is related to the selection
