1) A redox reaction is the transfer of one or more electron(s) from one reactant to another.

2) The electrochemical gradient is a concept in science used to measure the free energy available,
the available free energy is used to carry out the function of transporting the molecule across the
membrane. There are 2 electrochemical gradients that are established in the electron transport
chain - Proton gradient and hydrogen gradient. An electron transport chain is a continuous chain
of molecules that passes electrons from an electron donor to the final electron acceptor, while
this process takes place a proton gradient is created. The electron transport chain releases energy,
this energy creates a hydrogen gradient. ATP synthase is an enzyme that uses the previous proton
gradient to speed up the process of synthesis of ATP using a catalyst. The hydrogen gradient
makes its way through the ATP synthase and creates ATP through oxidative phosphorylation.

3) The oxygen molecule is utilized during the process of oxidative phosphorylation when the
hydrogen gradient makes its way to the ATP synthase and creates ATP.
