Section B: Using the information in your chosen scenario, critique that scenario’s
PowerPoint presentation.
Explain why two structural, content, or design components from each slide are ineffective or
inappropriate for communicating the information, including specific examples from all eight
slides.
Common Structural Components
Common Design Components
There is a content issue on slide 1. The title has been misspelled (should read
Cybersecurity) and doesn’t specify what the PowerPoint is about. It is too
vague. There is no information on who it is being presented by either. This is
1.
inappropriate for communicating the information to any desired audience as it
isn’t narrowing down the scope of the discussion nor is it providing any
information on who is the document owner/presenter.
Slide 1
There is a design component issue as well for slide 1. While the background
provides an idea as to the topic of discussion, it is inappropriate to have a
2. picture of a crowd watching fireworks. This image has nothing to do with the
content of the discussion. It leads to confusion and would be best if left off the
PowerPoint.
1. There is a noticeable structural issue on slide 2. While each of the steps taken to
Slide 2 remediate the issue are listed, they are done so with too much detail. It is best to
change the numbered items to bullets (as numbers suggest a certain order) and
simplify each statement. If needed in the notes section details can be added.
There is no need to go into that much detail as it makes the slide too busy and
the font too small to understand the material.
There is also a design issue on slide 2. There are too many contrasting colors.
The slide is a lot to take in. It would be best to remove the gradient portion of
2. the background if the picture must be kept. Perhaps use one of the colors within
the picture or make the picture smaller to emphasize on the text and not the
image.
There is a content issue for slide 3. The “To do” header is not professional and
too informal. It is best to briefly describe what the slide will accomplish while
keeping in mind the audience in which the presentation is being shown to. The
1.
slide would have been better suited to state something more like “Further
Actions to be Taken” or “Mitigation Steps”. This slide also seems like an
elaboration of slide 8 making it confusing to the reader for the duplicity.
Slide 3 There is also a design issue with slide 3. The listed roman numeral font is much
too small with inappropriate spacing. Utilizing an 8-point font while only using
half of the slide to present the verbiage doesn’t make it easy for the audience to
2.
be able to read and comprehend the material. The spacing for the first roman
numeral is indented which does not provide consistency with the rest of the
material on the slide.
There is a design component issue on slide 4. The information does not provide
any consistency from prior slides. The information is in two different colors,
1. one paragraph is italicized while the other isn’t utilizing two different fonts in
two different colors. This does not provide any uniformity with the first 3 slides
in the PowerPoint.
There is also a content issue on slide 4. The first sentence is incomplete and
Slide 4 leaves room for misinterpretation. In addition, it is unprofessional to shorten
words such as “reps” it should read representatives. In addition, there were a
2. number of spelling issues including “personable” should read “personal” and
“alot” should read “a lot”. The tone of the content is inappropriate for any
professional audience, it feels as though the designer is speaking to a friend not
a professional setting getting important security breach details communicated.
