Rule 1.10 - Games, Reading, or Other Media - Answer-Must not play, use PED's, or

Rule 1.3.1 - Rule, Regulations, and Instructions - Answer-- Safety Rules: Emps must
have a copy and be familiar with/comply
- GCOR: Must have a copy to refer to while on-duty if governed by that

Rule 1.3.2 - General Orders - Answer-- Numbered consecutively

Rule 1.4.1 - Good Faith Challenge - Answer-Emps can challenge directions from

Rule 1.30 - Riding Engine - Answer-When possible must ride on the head end of freight
train in the control compartment. Conductor will ride in control compartment.

Rule 1.47 - Duties of Crew Members - Answer-Conductor and Engineer are responsible
for safety and protection of train and observance of rules:
1) Conductor:
- Supervises the operation and administration of the train.

,- Advise engineer and train dispatcher of restriction placed on equipment being handled.
- Remind Engineer when approaching restricted areas
- Freight conductors are responsible for the freight carried by their train.
2) Engineer
- Responsible for safe and efficient operation of the engine.
- Check with the conductor to see if any cars or units need special handling.
3) All Crew Members:
- Must act responsibly to prevent accidents or rule violations
- Must be alert for and communicate signals.
- If conductor or engineer fail to comply with signal indication, must take action to
ensure safety, using emergency brake valve if necessary.

Rule 1.48 - Time - Answer-Crew members on duty must have a watch. Must not vary
more than 30 seconds from the correct time.

Rule 2.12 - Fixed Signal Information - Answer-Must not give information about signals
over the radio unless given to members of the same crew. Or if needed to warn of an
emergency.

Rule 2.21 - Electronic Devices - Answer-"A railroad operating employee shall not use an
electronic device while on duty if that use would interfere with the performance of
safety-related duties. Electronic Devices must not be used to verbally obtain or release
a mandatory directive when radio communication is available."

Rule 2.4 - Ending Transmission - Answer-Employees using a radio for transmissions
must state to the employee receiving the transmission either "Over" when response is
expected or "Out" preceded by required identification when no response is expected.

However, these requirements do not apply to yard switching operations.

Rule 4.2 - Special Instructions - Answer-Special instructions will replace any rule or
regulation with which they conflict.

Rule 5.15 - Improperly Displayed Signals - Answer-If a signal is improperly displayed or
is absent from place usually shown, regard signals as displaying the most restrictive
indication it can give.

Rule 5.13a - Protection of Occupied Outfit Cars - On a Main Track - Answer-1. Line
switches against movement on that rack secured with an effective locking device.

2. Controller will align remote control switches against movement. Blocking devices
must not be removed until the employee in charge of the outfit car occupants (or a
designated representative) informs the control operator that protection is no longer
required.

Rule 5.3.2 - Giving Signals - Answer-Employees who give signals must:

Rule 5.4.1 - Temporary Restrictions - Answer-- Yellow Flags: Temporary speed
restrictions
- Yellow/Red Flags: Indicate when train may be required to stop.
- Only one set of flags may be displayed in advance of the entire restriction in each
direction.

Rule 5.4.2a - Display of Yellow Flag - Restriction in Effect - Answer-- Placed two miles
ahead of restricted area. If less than two miles, then needs to be included in track
bulletin.
- Once train reaches restricted area, must move at specified speed.

Rule 5.4.2b - Display of Yellow Flag - Restriction not in Effect - Answer-- If displayed
and no restriction in effect on track bulletin, track warrant, or general order, once the
train is 2 miles beyond the yellow flag, crew members must
1) Continue moving the train but not exceeding 10 MPH
2) Resume speed only after the rear of the train has (a) passed a green flag, (b)
Resume speed only after 4 miles beyond the yellow flag and dispatcher has verified that
no track bulletin or track warrant is in effect.

Rule 5.4.3a - Display of Yellow-Red Flag - Restriction in Effect - Answer-- Placed two
miles ahead of restricted area. If less than two miles, then needs to be indicated in track
bulletin
- Red flag will indicate the location to stop.

Rule 5.4.3b - Display of Yellow-Red Flag - Restriction not in Effect - Answer-- Crew
members must be prepared to stop short of red flag 2 miles beyond. If red flag is
displayed, must contact EIC.
- If no red flag is displayed, (1) move at restricted speed, increase only after crew has
received instructions from the EIC or the leading wheels of movement are 4 miles
beyond the yellow/red flag. And verified that dispatcher has verified.

Rule 5.4.7 - Display of Red Flag - Answer-- If red flag displayed, trains must stop short
of flag and not proceed until instructions given by EIC.
- Must attempt to contact EIC to avoid delay.
- If instructions to proceed are received before stopping, they may proceed.
- IF Form B not in effect, instructions must include speed and distance. Speed must not
be exceeded until rear of train passes.
