founded the Academy. With Plato's student Aristotle begins the "scientific
revolution" of the Hellenistic period culminating in the 3rd to 2nd centuries
with scholars such as Eratosthenes, Euclid, Aristarchus of Samos, Hipparchus
and Archimedes.
