what bones are in the head?

- skull

- cranial bones: frontal, parietal, occipital, temporal

- 14 facial bones with one moveable joint: temporomandibular joint (where jaw joins the

Carotid arteries: 0-3+ (0 usually means you're dead) these will be examined one at a time

Trachea: midline; straight line behind the thyroid

Thyroid: no nodes, masses, or enlargement; should feel smooth and not enlarged. Can
stand behind patient and use right hand to palpate while left hand displaces. Or can
stand in front of patient with left thumb palpating and right thumb displacing

Objective

-Usually a focused assessment, only if patient comes in with condition related to sinuses

- Gently tap the sinuses to assess for any tenderness

There is no auscultation at this point but we will be adding auscultation to the carotid
arteries later
