1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
SABOT Group has its origin in South Africa where it is established as one of leaders
in multi-portfolio business ranging from agriculture and manufacturing to haulage
business. The group has managed to leverage its industrial expertise from its South
African home of origin to the rest of Southern Africa by showcasing its capabilities in
addressing challenges faced by mature industries in various sectors such as
manufacturing, mining, automotive, chemical substance, agriculture, healthcare,
information technology, agriculture and food processing and textile, clothing and
footwear that operate in the global market.
Investigation undertaken in this report shows that institutions have a significant
influence on business of SABOT in Zimbabwe. Essentially SABOT is one of few
successful South African companies operating in Zimbabwe. The company capitalised
on various fortunes from institutional arrangements in Zimbabwe to sustain its
operations. The report, however, will explore further deep on other factors such as
economic dependability of Zimbabwe, congruencies of foreign direct investment in
Zimbabwe, effects of exchange rates and corporate social responsibility.
It was noted in this report that SABOT management need to further strengthen their
corporation with local communities and all stakeholders to keep their business going.
Using evidence from various sources, it can be noted that SABOT stands strong
ground for success especially in the current political system in Zimbabwe. However,
its success might be questionable should the political system in Zimbabwe change.
Especially with the forces and waves of changes blowing in Zimbabwe calling for a
radical change. The looming political change in Zimbabwe could spike abrupt change
in both economic and social systems prevailing in Zimbabwe. This should be a wake-
up call to management to optimises the operational agility and create strategic stance
towards maximum flexibility. This allows the business to respond to any institutional
changes that may erupt in the country. Furthermore, considering how the SABOT
