Bijvoorbeeld herstel van schade. Zelfregulatie komt tot stand door hormonen,

Autotrofe organismen: maken hun eigen voedsel en leggen zonlicht vast in
chemische energie d.m.v. fotosynthese.
Heterotrofie organisme: verbruiken chemische energie die door
organisme is vast gelegd.
Zelforganisatie: biologische eenheden zijn in staat zichzelf te organiseren tot
biologische eenheden van een hoger niveau. Daardoor ontstaan er nieuwe
structuren: cellen weefsel orgaan. Hierbij ontstaan nieuwe emergente
eigenschappen. Bijvoorbeeld het regelen van lichaamstemperatuur
Ordening
Verband tussen vorm en functie: Bijvoorbeeld dijbeen langwerpige, holle
botten. Daardoor zijn ze licht maar alsnog stevig.
Stroomlijnvorm: lichaamsvorm die diersoorten hebben in het water
waardoor ze weinig weerstand hebben. BIJ DE LICHAAMSVORM VAN
EEN SOORT IS VRIJWEL ALTIJD HET VERBAND TE ZIEN TUSSEN
VORM EN FUNCTIE.
Interactie: Biologische eenheden reageren op andere biologische eenheden en
abiotische factoren. Op elk niveau vind dit plaats. Bijvoorbeeld signalen doorgeven
en stoffen uitwisselen.
Reproductie: De meeste biologische eenheden kunnen zichzelf reproduceren
(vermeerderen). Een celdeling ontstaan uit dochtercellen.
