Law = body of enforceable rules governing individuals and society.Law provides stability and predictability
Business must have to function property^
Business law – enforceable rules of conduct that govern commercial relationships
Functional areas of business affect by business law:
Corporate management, production of transportation, marketing, research and
development, ect
Law is either public or private, civil or criminal, substantive or procedural
Private law – regulates disputes between individual or groups. Ex: tenant is late paying rent
Public law – controls disputes between private individuals or groups and their government
Civil law – involves rights and responsibilities involved in relationships between persona and
their government. Sueing for money or equitable relief
Breach of contract
Torts – causes injury /car accident
Laws established by agreement of law
Provides injured party relief/remedy if rights are violated
Specific performance or injunctive relief may also be sought
Civil liability sought not finding of guilt
Preponderance of evidence burdens proof.
Cases filed by private parties of government
Examples are: breach of contract, wrongful termination, libel/slander
Criminal law – involves incidents in which someone commits an act against the public as a
whole

obligation. Rules of the court for governance of judicial proceedings
Cyberlaw- not really a classification of law. Informal term used to describe new laws and
modification. Based on existing law.
