, 1-2 Journal: Critiquing Media Writing

The first blog that I have chosen to analyze that demonstrates the principles of good new

media writing is a blog from, All the Food called, “Where to go for Brunch In Dublin - The City

Centre”. I chose this blog because it demonstrates several principles of good new media writing.

This article uses headlines and begins sentences with being brief. The title is clearly stating what

this blog is about. Each paragraph is labeled in an orderly fashion. An example of being

imaginative in this blog is using a metaphor, “Their mezze trays were a sight for sore eyes and

rumbling tummies, and they immediately gained a following,” (Doyle, 2024).This gives a vivid

image of the food for the reader to relate to. The writer is also being self-aware because he

describes each restaurant in full detail and never generalizes their offering. He provides specific

details of the menus and atmosphere of each restaurant. The writing in this article is easily

understood and shows no flaws in precision and consistency (Carroll, 2023).

The second blog that I have analyzed is “It's All in Your He...Mindset”, by Erin Azar.

This blog demonstrates the principles of good new media writing because this writer

incorporates both the principle of being direct and imaginative. Azar begins the sentence using a

metaphor, “In true me fashion”, and by doing this she is using the principle of being imaginative

as well as, making a personal connection to the reader by revealing she has a way that is personal

to her. The writer is also using the principle of being direct because she is announcing that she

has done something to be compelling and writes it in a brief statement at the beginning of the

sentence. This is also a way to gain attention from the reader because they will be interested to

find out what that “true fashion” is. I found this to be a good display of good new media writing
