, Abortion in the United States has been an ethical dilemma for decades. The Pro-life vs. Pro-
choice has been debated religiously, in politics, law and medicine. Politically, it was addressed
in Roe v. Wade in 1973 where it was ruled a woman's choice to have an abortion outweighs the
state's concern for prenatal life up to the point of fetal viability or when the fetus can survive
outside the womb. Religiously, many religions do not allow abortions to be performed. Do
conditions leading to abortion apply in these religions? Given the contents of the Torah, as the
oldest scripture, Judaism deems abortion and prevention from contraception a sin and considers
the family head responsible for this (Bank, 2020).
Medically, doctors face the dilemma of treating pregnant patients and are often asked their
opinion of abortion. Is it ethically acceptable to offer their own bias opinion to a woman about
abortion, or when is it acceptable? Patients may consider their general practitioner to be their
doctor, but also to potentially fulfil other roles, including confident, professional, advise-giver,
advocate, and in some circumstances, even friend (Aung & Knight, 2020). Are they going to
offer their opinion to benefit the patient, consider their condition and the condition of the
unborn child, to help the patient, or to appease their own bias?

me personally.
When a woman has a choice on abortion, there are many things to consider. If she is
undecided and asks her doctor for advice, the doctor must think about the patient's health over
their own bias. Doctors should be aware of their emotions and consider how these might
