, The homelessness in LA is a major problem and it’s known around the world. Mostly

police are the ones called to tent city to either remove them from where they are, arrest them, or

cite them. Its just that simple according to some people who don’t like where the city or cities

across the world are going. For this plan to work, you must have a strong trust and strong

cooperation between the citizens of LA, the homeless population, and the police department that

serves both sides. The issue of public trust can come from both sides of the community. The

homeless are not a big supporter of police because of the constant harassing by them to try and

comply with city ordinances, laws, and regulations. “As homelessness has increased in Southern

California, that means more officers responding to more calls where someone involved

potentially has a severe mental illness.” (Tinoco, 2020) So, the distrust arises from so much

harassment over the years by police, but we need to take into consideration the political climate

we currently live in. It would be easy if everyone came together that would mutually accept the

police department, citizens of LA, and LA business owners that are constantly affected by the

ongoing homeless problem that could make life very hard. I think to gain trust it would be wise

to have community meetings once or even twice a week. The community, police department, and

LA officials should get together and discuss options for the growing and ongoing problem facing

the state. Rebuilding trust will take time but can be achieved if something takes place. Both sides

need to listen to each side and figure out a solution that works for all. During the event, officers

used discretion by not arresting the man for all the illegal activity that was presenting and instead

talked to him and told him how to get help. Rather than being robot, the officer talked with the

man and did whatever he could to give valuable resources. He could have easily arrested the man

or sent him for treatment to the VA hospital.
