-Do you smoke, have you ever smoked, do you live with anyone who smokes?
-Do you have any shortness of breath?
-Do you have asthma?
-Do you exercise regularly, if so does it cause you shortness of breath?
-How oten do you have colds, and how long do they last?
-Do you get your lu vaccine and when was the last time you got it?
-How many pillows do you sleep with, is it for comfort or because you can't breathe?
-Do you have a cough, if so is it productive, is anything coming up?

❏ Now i'm just going to take a look
❏ Look at posterior and lateral diameter, should be 1-2, someone whose barrel chested, has
COPD or has emphysema would be 1-1 APA Lateral diameter
❏ Say: “AP Lateral Diameter is 1-2 which is normal”
❏ Check respiratory rate, count for 30 seconds then multiply it by 2
❏ Say: “ e number you got ,Normal respiratory rate, and normal depth, No use of
accessory muscles”
❏ Ask patient to swallow then state “Trachea was midline”
❏ Ask for ethnicity
