NUR185 Exam 2 Review• DEPTHS OF BURNS:
o Superficial (1st degree) -dry, no vesicles, blanches
o Par=al thickness (2nd degree) -large moist vesicles; very painful.
o Full thickness (3rd degree) -dry with leathery eschar, charred vessels, vesicles
rare, li;le or no pain

• KNOW THE STAGES & MAIN CONCERNS:
o Stage 1: EMERGENT STAGE
§ Lasts 48 hours.
§ Big issue à hypovolemic shock
§ Potassium increases, risk of cardiac dysrhythmia, ARF a risk.
o Stage 2: ACUTE STAGE (diure=c stage)
§ Begins 48-72 hours.
§ Circulatory overload is the main concern.
§ The kidneys start making a lot of urine.
§ CHF risk
§ Low potassium (opposite from stage 1)
o Stage 3: REHABILITATION PHASE
§ Goal: Prevent infecOon
§ We want to return pt back to “normal”
