ANSWER - When he was walking near a stream due to being weak
from asceticism he fainted and fell into the river but the cold water
revived him
- He then walked to a nearby food stand and eat his first meal as the 5
monks saw him do this he was labed as a trator
- Afterward he went back the river and sat under a tree and mediated in
which he was finally enlighted and known as Buddha
- In his mediation he received an image of the endless cycle of birth and
death and people are bound to this cycle because of desire which
causes karma and fetters people
- He found enlightenment when he no longer wanted it
Who were the Sangha? - ANSWER - The Buddhist community
- After Buddha found enlightenment and went back to the 5 monks that
no longer liked him and explained to them how he received enlightment
- The monks noticed a change in him and accepted his teachings and
became the first sangha
Did Buddha think women could become "enlightened" and reach
Nirvana? - ANSWER - Unlike other religions he taught that ant person
of any caste or sex could reach enlightment
- When woman first asked to joung his group he was at first reluctant but
then allowed them form an order of nuns (which included his wife and
stepmother)
