Case Study: Working Mother Assignment

, Serena is a 35-year-old single mother of two. She obtained her Associates degree in

business ten years ago. Serena currently works as an insurance adjuster, for the past four

years. She is unmarried a life in a small two-bedroom apartment with her two school aged

children. Serena never had a budget and is not sure where her money is going. She has three

credit cards and is $3800.00 in debt. Most of her debt comes from shopping when she is

feeling lonely, empty, or defeated. She pays her bills monthly but pays the minimum and has

a $4000.00 limit. Her car recently broke down and needs repairs, but money is so tight every

month, she does not know how to get the funds. She’s also considering purchasing some new

furniture from a local company that offers no monthly payment or interest for 12 months. She

remembers her parents forgetting to pay bills, so this seemed like a solution to her. She is

motivated to become financially responsible but doesn’t know where to begin. This paper will

describe Serenas first three coaching sessions.
