organizer with a checklist to help reach his goals. “A graphic organizer is an instructional tool
students can use to organize and structure information and concepts and to promote thinking
about relationships between concepts,” (Zollman, A., 2009). His specialized organizer (example
shown at the bottom) should help him reach his academic goals, transition goals, and Ms.
Kalani’s unit-objective.

Will would benefit from this strategy because the graphic organizer with the checklist
will help him break the steps up into smaller, more manageable pieces that are easier to focus on.
Checklists have been shown to help Will be successful in the past and the graphic organizer will
further his organization skills. The graphic organizer will help him reach his academic goal as
the color coordination and checklist on it will help him be able to maintain a monthly household
budget when given an income and various bills.
In Ms. Kalani’s unit-objective, Will is expected to create a budget using an assigned
career card. He will then use this information to research and fill out the provided graphic
organizer and checklist. If it meets Ms. Kalani’s criteria, he may turn in his version of the
budgeting spreadsheet, if not then he can use his graphic organizer to fill in Ms. Kalani’s
budgeting spreadsheet. By learning how to maintain a monthly household budget in this unit-
objective, Will will be able to live independently in an apartment and be able go to college to be
