complete solutions 2024/2025

A Pew Research Survey found that "61 percent of those surveyed agreed that changes are needed to the
fundamental design and structure of American government." Describe one change that is needed OR
one part of the structure that works well. Explain. - ANSWERS-checks and balances

-make sure no one has too much power

-gives each branch of government individual power

-make sure the president is doing good

In your opinion, what is the most important function of U.S. government? Explain. - ANSWERSthe most
important function of the US government is ensuring national security. This protects the US border and
defends against threats from other countries. Ensuring national security helps the citizens of the US to
feel safe, knowing they are protected by the military.

Describe the protective and developmental models of democracy. Do you think one model is more
important than the other? Explain. - ANSWERSprotective- government exists to protect the rights of the
individual

developmental- focused on what is best for society as a whole

I think both of them are important because they balance each other out in a way. The rights of the
individual need to be protected while the citizens are taking into account what is best for society so
everything can run smoothly.

Define and describe two American beliefs or values. Which of the two is most important to you? Explain.
- ANSWERSValues: democracy- government for the people by the people

patriotism- being patriotic, showing love for your country

Beliefs: egalitarianism- doctrine emphasizing equality

Individualism- stresses centrality of each individual, ability to act freely

Democracy and egalitarianism. Democracy is important to me because I see how the citizens in these
other countries are living and I am so thankful to live in a country that has so much freedom.
Egalitarianism is important because everyone deserves to be equal no matter what background they
come from, everyone deserves equal opportunities no matter what it's about.

, Do you think the U.S. can be a melting pot and promote multiculturalism? - ANSWERSI think the U.S. can
be a melting pot and promote multiculturalism. I believe this because equality is so important and
always has been in the US and always welcomes new immigrants. If they go through the system and
come into the US the correct way they are more than welcome to come here and embrace their culture.
The US is full of many different cultures and already promotes mulitculturalism.

Explain TWO specific reasons how the current U.S. Constitution improved the previous structure of
government power under the Articles of Confederation. - ANSWERSOne reason the US constitution
improved the previous structure of government power is he creation of the 3 branches of government.
The Legislative, Judicial, and Executive branches together create a separation of powers so that one part
does not have too much power. Another reason it improved is because of the power to tax to support an
army. Now, the US government can defend against a foreign attack with confidence because of having an
army.

Identify and discuss one major compromise adopted at the Constitutional Convention. What issue did
the compromise address? - ANSWERSone major compromise at the constitutional convention was the
three-fifths compromise. This compromise addressed slavery and counting the slaves as citizens. It was
agreed that three-fifths of the slave population would be counted for deciding upon direct taxation and
representation in the House of Representatives. This simply means that 3 out of every 5 slaves were
counted when determining a states population for representation and taxation.

List and explain the four main constitutional principles. In your opinion, which one is most important? -
ANSWERSthe four main principles in the constitution are limited government, separation of powers,
checks and balances, and federalism. Limited government means it was created by the people so it only
has as much power as we allow it to have, it is limited to what it can control. Separation of powers
created a strong government, but not so strong that it would turn into tyranny. Checks and balances
guarantees that no one branch of government has too much power, it is divided evenly between the 3
and if one oversteps its boundaries, the other 2 are there to say so. Federalism allows the central
government to hold some powers while others are held by the states. The most important one in my
opinion is limited government.

Do you agree that a rule of secrecy was necessary at the Constitutional Convention? Explain. - ANSWERSI
agree that a rule of secrecy was necessary at the constitutional convention. I agree because this allowed
for ideas to be bounced around without things getting out of control. The freedom to think and flip flop
ideas is important to do and is easier without a whole bunch of people listening and maybe getting
angry. If too many people were there, they could have been a chance of not agreeing on anything at all
because of too many arguments or too many people getting upset.
