Chapter 1 ✔️✔️In Chapter 1, Ralph and Piggy are stranded on an island. Their transport plane was
shot down and there are hundreds of boys separated on the island. Ralph and Piggy find a pink conch
shell in some water and Ralph sounds the conch to signal the other boys toward where he was. The boys
all get together and Jack, the leader of a boy's choir, decides that all the boys should vote for a leader.
All the boys vote and Ralph is elected leader. Ralph, Jack, and Simon go hunting for a pig. They find a pig
and Jack raises his knife to stab it, but he is not able to. His hesitation keeps him from getting the pig,
and the pig breaks free and runs away.
Chapter 2 ✔️✔️Ralph decides that they need to build a huge fire on top of the mountain so they can
signal passing ships. They build a fire, but no one knows how to light it. A kid suggests that they use
Piggy's specs to concentrate the sunlight on the wood to create a flame. This is successful, but the fire is
made up of mostly dead wood that burns really quickly. Ralph then assigns Jack and his choir to keep the
fire running at all times. Another choir boy suggests that they can burn green branches to get more
smoke if they see a passing ship.
Chapter 3 ✔️✔️Jack continues hunting pigs with no success; meanwhile, Simon and Ralph work on
building shelters. Ralph is upset that the littluns don't help them. Jack returns and, frustrated from
hunting, lashes out at Ralph and Simon for having their priorities "wrong". Jack thinks that meat is more
important than shelters. Later, Simon wanders off and goes to his special place in the forest for the first
time.
