Week 8 Assignment Worksheet: Piaget’s Four Stages of Cognitive Development
1. Based upon Piaget’s four stages of cognitive development, how will each child help you in
making cookies? For instance, will one child be able to assist in pouring flour into a bowl,
whereas another child will simply play with the flour?
Your answer: Each child developes differently in each age group. As they get older their
maturity levels get better. If I were baking cookies, I would have each age group doing
something they are capable of doing for their age. For example: I would have Charlie, which
is two year old hold the measuring cup while I pour the flour in the cup to measure then have
him pour it into the bowl. The same for the sugar portion. Next I would have my six year old,
Penelope help me count the eggs and crack them into a different bowl. (Just incase any
eggshells fall into it) Then I would have her pour the cracked eggs into the bowl with the flour
and sugar mix. Next I would have my 9 year old Isabelle, help me measure and melt the
butter. Once melted in the microwave, I would have her pour it into the same bowl with the
flour, sugar, and egg mix. I would also have her measure and pour the vanilla extract.
After everything that is needed is in the mixing bowl, I would have my 13 year old teenager
Brian, measure and add some chocolate chips to the mixture. Then I would have him start
mixing the batter with a hand mixer. Afterwards, I would have all the children help me put the
batter on a cookie sheet to bake the cookies. Of course I would have to watch the youngest
two children, for as they would be mushing the dough between their little finges and making a
mess.
