This paper examines the author's values and beliefs about family nursing and health
promotion and their influence on decision-making and professional judgment. According
to Blais and Hayes (2015), nurses are required to exhibit value-neutral behaviour. Nurses
must be aware of their values and how these values can impact their actions (p. 55). This
reflective journal helps examine and reflect on personal values, beliefs and assumptions,
leading to a change in perspective (Melrose et al., 2013).

symptoms of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. As highlighted by Paul et al. (2016), the "five components of diabetes

management include nutrition, exercise, monitoring, pharmacologic therapy, and education" (p. 1279).
