The following paper focuses on my nursing philosophy supported by scholarly

references. It allows me to articulate my nursing philosophy as it relates to my current

nursing practice. It begins with key values and beliefs embedded in my nursing

philosophy. It also describes my philosophy of Practice in my workplace along with

theories, concepts and values that guide my workplace. Besides, it assesses the

alignment of my nursing philosophy with the values of my current workplace. In

addition, I will provide a specific and clear example of when my nursing philosophy

guided my Practice. Further, it explores a nursing theory that aligns with my nursing

philosophy. Finally, I will explain the role of concepts and theories when thinking about

my nursing practice.

Philosophy of Nursing

According to Butts & Rich (2021), a nursing philosophy refers to a system of

personal beliefs or values guiding nurse practitioners. Nurses have different nursing

philosophies which guide their decision-making and navigation through multifaceted

and complex issues in nursing practice. Any nursing philosophy is rooted in personal

beliefs, principles and responsibilities (Petiprin, 2020). Therefore, a nursing philosophy

guides how nurse practitioners interact with their patients, colleagues, families and

entire society. A nursing philosophy's components are universal and comprise

advocacy, patient-centered care, beliefs, personal values, ethical principles,

professional values and holistic care (Crash Course in Philosophy, 2016). All these

aspects are essential in ensuring ethical and appropriate nursing practice for every

nurse.
