Als er plaque-gerelateerde gingivitis bestaat, dan zal er ook niet-plaque gerelateerde
gingivitis bestaan. Gingivitis heeft dus verschillende vormen. Niet elke verandering van de
gingiva is noodzakelijk plaque-gerelateerd.
Niet-plaque gerelateerde gingivitis
Herpetiforme gingivostomatitis
Veroorzaakt door een HSV-infectie. Dit heeft
dus niet te maken met plaque, maar met een
virale infectie.
Pemphigus
Dit zijn blaarvormingen in de mond.
Belangrijk is dat je ziet dat er onderaan de
tanden plaque zit en dat de ontsteking zich niet
echt manifesteert ter hoogte van de plaque. Er
is met andere woorden geen duidelijke
correlatie tussen de aanwezige plaque en de
ontsteking. De aandoening is dus niet-plaque
gerelateerd. Het is een auto-
immuunaandoening.
