Creating a Sense of Urgency

A sense of urgency begins when Apple leaders identify the vulnerability associated with

the need for change (Coutts, 2011). It is essential to approach this step realistically because,

according to Kotter, most organizations he has interacted with could not create a sense of

urgency that can stimulate action (Coutts, 2011). In creating a sense of urgency, Apple's leaders

must realize this step's critical nature. In this step, the following guidelines should be observed:

First, Apple’s leaders should begin by identifying any looming future threats and their

repercussions. In doing so, they will be able to address the change process from a dynamic

perspective. For example, since the human resource problem involves a large section of Apple's

workforce, potential future threats may come from a high employee turnover or decreased

productivity from a lack of motivation. It is necessary to define such potential issues to develop a

robust approach towards addressing them. Secondly, Apple leaders should identify the

opportunities that may present alongside the intervention measures. Ordinarily, this may sound
