Candidate’s material – Role-play

To be conducted by the teacher–examiner between 2 April and 17 May 2024.

Time allowed: 10–12 minutes (+12 minutes’ supervised preparation time)

Instructions
• You must not use a dictionary at any time during the test.

Supervised preparation time (12 minutes)
• Prepare this Role-play and the Photo card.
• You may make notes on an Additional Answer Sheet, but you must not write on the cards.
• You may refer to your notes during the Role-play and Photo card tasks.

The test (between 10 and 12 minutes)
• Your first task is the Role-play (approximately 2 minutes).
• Your second task is the Photo card (maximum 3 minutes).
• After these two tasks, you must hand both cards and any notes you made to the teacher-examiner.
The final task is the General Conversation (approximately 5–7 minutes) based on your chosen
Theme and the Theme which has not been covered on the Photo card.
• Remember: You must ask the teacher-examiner a question during the General Conversation.

,The GCSE Spanish Higher Tier Paper 4 Writing exam is scheduled for Monday 10 June 2024
(Afternoon), with a time allowance of 1 hour 15 minutes. This exam will test your ability to write in
Spanish in a variety of contexts and for different purposes.

Overview of the Exam:

The Writing exam for the Higher Tier tests your ability to produce accurate and coherent written
Spanish in response to a series of tasks. The tasks may involve writing in different formats such as
letters, emails, essays, or descriptions, and may require you to express opinions, describe events, or
discuss plans.

Structure of the Exam:

1. Task 1: Short Writing Tasks (50 marks)
o This section usually includes two or more tasks. These tasks require you to write short
pieces of text, such as:
 A letter or email to a friend or family member.
 A description of a person or place.
 A plan or description of a future event.
o You will need to respond in Spanish, using the language correctly to convey your ideas.
The tasks often focus on practical, everyday scenarios, such as:
 Describing your routine or hobbies.
 Expressing your opinions on various topics.
 Describing a trip, event, or experience.
o For each task, you will need to provide sufficient detail to demonstrate your
understanding of the topic and your ability to express ideas in a clear and organized way.
2. Task 2: Longer Writing Task (40 marks)
o In this task, you will need to write a longer piece of text (approximately 150-200 words),
such as:
 An essay on a specific topic.
 A description of a future or past event.
 A formal letter or email (depending on the task).
o You will be given a choice of topics to respond to. These topics will be related to themes
such as family, education, holidays, health, and free time.
o This section is more challenging and requires you to express detailed opinions, provide
explanations, and use a variety of vocabulary and grammatical structures.
