, My Human Services Professional Practitioner Identity
My identity statement that will serve as my guide in my endeavors in becoming a human
services professional practitioner. It is important to have a strong professional identity
statement, one can benefit from the ability to be able to consider the values and how they relate
to the organization’s behavior as the expectation from said profession (Webb, 2017). I will have
to contribute to the well-being of the individuals I will serve as well as society. I must commit to
a long-life of learning to improving my skills and embody empathy and service towards my
clients. When dealing with clients in the human services professional field one must remain
professional as possible. When you have clients, you must conduct yourself accordingly. This is
to adhere to guidelines to ensure the best possible outcome for my clients.
The role that I envision for myself is to help individuals successfully overcome
challenges that they may encounter. The main goal is to continually help those in need be self-
sufficient and to look for ways to maximize their potentials. I believe that at times one may need
or seek help from outside sources, however individuals may have the capacity to meet his or her
own needs with minimal help. For this reason, as a human services practitioner, it is my
responsibility to see that every member of society can overcome personal challenges effectively
so they can enjoy a meaningful and prosperous life. To be effective in one’s role, these are some
characteristics that one should pose. Showing empathy, being able to place yourself in other
shoes and recognizing that experiences, perceptions and worldviews. Communication, talking
with clients about challenges in their lives and assist them in getting help. Patience, being able to
have patience to work through complex cases and with clients who needs longer periods of time
to make progress. And ethics, human service professional must be ethical and keep the interest of
those they serve above their own interests. An ethical supervisor values and appreciates others.
