This document offers a comprehensive overview of Macbeth by William Shakespeare, highlighting its main themes, characters, and literary techniques. It dives into important concepts like ambition, showcasing how the unchecked thirst for power from Macbeth and Lady Macbeth propels the story and ultimately leads to their ruin. The discussion of fate versus free will is examined through the witches’ predictions and Macbeth’s decisions, prompting reflections on destiny and accountability. Additional sections tackle themes of guilt and its mental impact, the nature of power and tyranny, and how the supernatural elements disturb the natural order. Packed with insights on pivotal scenes, essential quotes, and character breakdowns, this resource is an excellent study aid for students delving into the play in English Literature.

MACBETH REVISION
The witches manipulate him by playing with his ambitions
Metaphor is used to show lady Macbeths fear that Macbeth
is honorable to achieve his ambitions ‘I fear thy nature/ it is
too full o’th milk of human kindness’

The king makes his thane of Cawdor and uses the adjective
‘noble’ to show Macbeth is honorable, ‘what he hath lost,
noble Macbeth hath won’

During Act 1, he battles his feelings of right and wrong.
Shakespeare shows this through Macbeths soliloquies and his
dialogue with lady Macbeth.
Macbeth knows regicide will damn him to hell but lady
Macbeth convinces to go ahead. She manipulates and
dominates him. Macbeths greatest weakness is his wife

Macbeth becomes more corrupted by power and his wish to
secure his position.
Macbeth seems to give up in goodness and decides his life ‘in
blood/ stepp’d in so far’ that he may continue with his
tyranny
At the banquet, Macbeth appears to be losing his sanity.
