De adenohypofyse is de anterieure kwab van de hypofyse en heeft 5 celtypen die tropische
hormonen aanmaken, opslaan en vrijstellen (hormonen die effect hebben op andere
endocriene klieren)

De secretie wordt gereguleerd door een set van releasing en inhiberende hormonen die
worden geproduceerd in de hypothalamus en via de lokale bloedbaan naar de
adenohypofyse gaan.
De stimulatie van neuronen in de hypothalamus zorgt voor vrijstelling van hormoon
releasing/inhibiting factoren in de primaire capillaire plexus thv het infindibulum en gaat via
de portale venen naar de secundaire capillaire plexus thv de adenohypofyse = het
poortaderstysteem.
ACTH: adrenocorticotroop hormoon
ACTH wordt gemaakt uit pre-promelanocortine.
