This research paper purpose is to conclude the 2014 Verwiei study for this weekly
review. The Verwiei study purpose was the focus on the amount of interruption the registered
nurse deal with during medication administration.According to (Titler,2014), the negative effects
of medication administration errors is a patient safety concern that the healthcare community has
voiced concern related to the outcome for the patient. The research used a quantitative, mixed
method to collect and review the data. The study took place at a Dutch University Hospital on
three wards with the nurses using tabard apron during medication pass. The goal of the medical
tabard when implement was the attempt to decrease the number of interruptions that occur during
medication administration. The use of Tabard Apron decreases the number of medication error.
Conclusions
The first conclusion from the study was the changes implemented decrease the medication error
during administration. The research showed that the tabards effectively reduced the number of
medication administration errors significantly lowered. According to (Titler, 2014) “The
widespread use of drug tabard an inexpensive intervention using a yellow fluorescent apron with
printed text “Do not disturb, medication pass in progress” that help decrease the number of
interruptions during drug rounds.” The implementation of the tabard served as a reminder to co-
workers, patient, and family that the nurse should not be interrupted during when possible during
medication administration times.
The second conclusion is the type of interruption that occurs during a medication pass. The
implementation of the Tabard apron showed a significant decrease in the verbal and non-verbal
interruption across the board by both the patient, family, and nurses (Titler, 2014). The study
