Importance in Biology
In studying biology, two main views or perspectives can be
taken when examining living organisms and their role in the
world: the bio-centric view and the anthropocentric view.
Bio-Centric View
A focus on the intrinsic value of all living organisms and
their role in the ecosystem
Emphasizes the interconnectedness and interdependence
of all living things
Seeks to understand and preserve the diversity and
complexity of life on Earth
Importance in biology:
o Helps in the conservation of species and ecosystems
o Promotes sustainable practices and ethical treatment of
animals
o Encourages a deeper appreciation and understanding of
the natural world
Anthropocentric View
A focus on the value of living organisms in relation to
human needs and wants
Emphasizes the use of living organisms for human benefit,
such as for food, medicine, and research
May prioritize human interests over the well-being of other
living organisms
Importance in biology:
o Helps in the development of technologies and treatments
for human use
