Bio-Centric View vs Anthropocentric View:
Importance in Biology
In studying biology, two main views or perspectives can be
taken when examining living organisms and their role in the
world: the bio-centric view and the anthropocentric view.

Bio-Centric View
 A focus on the intrinsic value of all living organisms and
their role in the ecosystem
 Emphasizes the interconnectedness and interdependence
of all living things
 Seeks to understand and preserve the diversity and
complexity of life on Earth
 Importance in biology:
o Helps in the conservation of species and ecosystems
o Promotes sustainable practices and ethical treatment of
animals
o Encourages a deeper appreciation and understanding of
the natural world
Anthropocentric View
 A focus on the value of living organisms in relation to
human needs and wants
 Emphasizes the use of living organisms for human benefit,
such as for food, medicine, and research
 May prioritize human interests over the well-being of other
living organisms
 Importance in biology:
o Helps in the development of technologies and treatments
for human use
