Hoorcollege 1 - Introductie
Waar gaat deze cursus over?
- Cognitie gaat over de geest (mind) (dat ding waarmee je denkt)
Eerst: bestaat de geest wel?
Volgens Descartes: ja!
- Ik kan aan alles twijfelen:
- Als ik mijn ogen dicht doe verdwijnt de wereld en mijn lichaam.
- Als ik aan iets twijfel, dan weet ik niet zeker dat het bestaat.
- Ik weet dus niet zeker of de wereld en mijn lichaam bestaan.
Ik kan echter niet twijfelen aan het feit dat ik twijfel: twijfelen is een vorm van denken.
- Dat wat denkt kan niet tegelijkertijd niet bestaan.
Denken bestaat: ik denk dus ik ben (cogito ergo sum).
- Denken is een eigenschap van de geest.
Maar wat is de geest dan?
- Boek: “The mind creates and controls mental functions such as perception, attention, memory,
emotions, language, deciding, thinking and reasoning.”
- Wikipedia: “The mind is a set of cognitive faculties including consciousness, perception,
thinking, judgement and memory.”
- Een verzameling cognitieve competenties waaronder: aandacht, bewustzijn, perceptie, kennis,
geheugen, leren, probleemoplossing, beslissen en taal.
