Animal farm
summary:
The story is set at Manor Farm. Mr. Jones, a drunken man, who runs his farm badly. One
day he is chased away from his farm by his animals, after which they call the farm "Animal
Farm". The animals call this day "the Rebellion". This revolution was already predicted by an
old pig named Major. He explained Animalism to the animals, a view in which all animals are
equal and people no longer have power over them.
After the Rebellion, the animals take control of the farm led by the pig's Snowball and
Napoleon. The pigs drew up the seven commandments of Animalism, with the basic rules:
"Four legs good, two legs bad ", and" All animals are equal ". All animals help hard to
maintain the farm, and the first harvest becomes a success. There are a few animals that
cannot appreciate the revolution, such as the mare Molly who no longer has sugar cubes
and ribbons in her hair, and the donkey Benjamin who looks cynically at the new system. On
the other hand, there are the horses Boxer and Clover, who work extremely hard to maintain
the farm. Boxer therefore says: "I will work harder and Napoleon is always right". Until here it
sounds pretty good, but unfortunately, the pigs get more and more power. The idealistic
ideas of animalism were lost as you can read on the barn “all animals are equal, but some
are more equal than others” In the end the animals have an even worse life with leader
napoleon then with mr. jones.

The book is written in a nutral style. There is no mention of the individual thoughts and
feelings of certain characters. This was probably chosen because it is not about individuals,
but about the way groups function and how a social group develops.
Description of the characters:
Napoleon: a smart pig that takes the lead after the uprising. The mean pig, he only does
things that he himself benefits from.
Snowball: the pig in charge of the revolution together with napoleon. He wants the best for
the other animals, and was very enthusiastic and in favor of Animalism, but was chased
away by Napoleon.
Squealer: Is Napoleon's help. Squealer is a somewhat stupid pig who blindly trusts his
leader and gives everything to him. Squealer is said to be a symbol for the Russian media.
