Project Proposal
Verizon remains a top competitor and cell phone service provider in the United States.
They have two tiers with their Unlimited Plans: Unlimited and Unlimited Plus. The “Plus” is not
heavily advertised but promotes the fastest data speeds so you don’t have to wait in a que for
data downloading. The finer details that come with the Plus plan included a higher data
threshold, more cloud storage, and more hotspot data. This seems to be counterintuitive to their
plan that claims to have no limits. My project will be to merge the four available plans to two
unlimited plans. Merging to one could not be possible for a few reasons I will list below.
One challenge that the project will face is the data crowding once the merging occurs. It
would not be feasible for Verizon to go from four tiers to one, as their cell towers would never be
able to keep up with call and data demand. Speeds would significantly reduce for all customers
and that’s one thing that will make customers leave. Instead of merging to one, merging to two
will still maintain the level of exclusivity that the Plus plan has: those clients can still have the
larger data threshold available only to them.
Another challenge the project will face is the downtime while the merge occurs. As I
mentioned before, the data speed is of major concern during the merge. There is no way possible
to shut down cell service in order to expedite the process. The clients will be impacted by the
merge during normal operational times. The merge is to either occur in batches to minimize
delays and downtime, or it is to occur with each client group one by one before all clients have
been re-grouped.
The leadership within this project will decide what route to take and how that is
communicated to both stakeholders and the service facing customers. Specifically, for large
