For this week’s assignment I did a reflection to when I was an assistant Spanish teacher at
St. Helena Montessori School and the way in which the teacher taught students reading and
writing in the classroom.It is where I observed the daily routine of a Montessori primary
classroom with students between the ages of 3-6 years old. One thing that I really like about the
Montessori method is that its modeled in the way that a student is given the chance to pick their
own work based on lessons that have been given to them by the lead teacher. The classroom is
modeled in different sections such as Practical life, Sensorial, Math, Language, and Atrium.
We can all agree that reading and writing are vital tools for all children during their
journey to becoming successful readers as well as writers. These are skills that though they are
not easy to master can make student improve little by little, and as they get older, they will gain
more knowledge and experience during their education.
Children’s Language Development
As far as what the best method or practice on the topic of children’s language
development. There are many different ways of encouraging students I their learning journey of
reading and writing. It is important that we understand that language learning begins from birth
to age 5. Children are like sponges that are able to adapt to learning and absorbing a new
languagethrough repletion and seeing people around them. For example,children at this age are
able to make vowel sounds such as -ooh and -ah, as well as recognize sound and voices when
people are talking to them. In the sense of children ages 1-5 they begin to develop and recognize
names and are able to use their first 4 to 6 ineligible words with letters b,c,d, and g. Children
also begin using partial words and learn to say the word “no” andask for help using gestures and
