Caribou Coffee, Inc. has done a great job. After all, being the second largest specialty
coffee house after Starbucks is a great job. There are definitely some areas that the coffee
company can make improvements (Butler, 2010). Week 2 project involved conducting and
internal and external environmental scanning of Caribou Coffee, Inc. Towards the end of the
paper, one of the things discussed is opportunities for improvement that Caribou Coffee has (Al-
Saadi & Al-Ali, 2013). The opportunities for expansion discussed in the Week 2 project includes
expanding the menu to accommodate additional options to consumers, expanding locally and
expanding globally. Other opportunities for improvement includes diversification of the
company by acquiring new businesses and word of mouth.
Recommended solutions, proposed actions and recommendations for the Caribou’s
opportunities for improvement
The first opportunity for improvement that Caribou Coffee should focus on is expanding
locally and globally. Caribou Coffee should enter all the cities of the United States to serve its
domestic market. This would offer the coffee house a competitive advantage of being
competitive locally and acceptance in its domestics market (Ahamat, Dirir, & Robani, 2017). If
the company open locations in major cities and towns within the United States and offer quality
coffee and customer service, it will be a boost to the company as more people will flock the
locations. Having a wide menu will more items would be an added advantage. Caribou Coffee
should also expand internationally to other countries and continents (Delery & Roumpi, 2017).
Starbuck, their main competitors, are everywhere by Caribou locations are not. Starbucks enjoys
the competitive advantage of being the largest specialty coffee shop in the entire world because
