, ETHICAL VIOLATIONS IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE 2

Ethical Violations in Criminal Justice

The main function of the police force in the United States is to protect the communities

and its citizens from criminals and those that would cause them harm, and this includes the

police themselves. It is also their duty as officers of the law to uphold the laws of this country or

the states that they live in, but they must uphold them, not bend or break them in order to bring a

criminal to justice, even if that person is a police officer. The relationship between the

community they are set to protect and serve, and their respective departments is tenuous at best

and they need to protect it and find reason to make it stronger, not make it weaker by abusing

their authority as officer. Bending or breaking laws in order to make an arrest would be an

ethical violation of the oath that officers take when they pledge to serve and protect and would

then make them unworthy to wear the badge.
