The leader that I have chosen to discuss in is the Chief Operating Officer of my healthcare organization.
His name is Ricky and he is newer to the organization, having only been with us for a couple of years.
There are many ethical traits that Ricky possess but the two that stand out to me most notably are
justice and honesty. Regardless of the personal values he may have, he is always just in his decisions
that are led with honesty. In certain circumstances he can be very transparent so there is a good
understanding of the company vision and the reason for the change that has to be implemented for the
health of the business. This level of honesty is hard for some to swallow but at the end of the day, it is
the right thing to do even though we may not agree with it due to other perspectives that are more
personal. A great example of Ricky’s showmanship of ethical conduct can be seen in the restructuring of
the organization due to financial strains on organization due to COVID19 impact. The senior leadership
group as well as the stakeholders had to come together to be able to balance the finances of the
organization with the smallest impact possible on the human capitol side. We operated medical clinics in
eleven states, which house forty-seven locations between them. Ricky had suggested we minimize our
operating hours and change our benefits package to allow all of our team members to continue to be
benefit eligible at a 30-hour work week due to cut in operating hours. The team members could even
choose to drop the benefits if they could not afford them and we would offer them back at the point in
which they chose to re-start them.
The idea that he was able to take the health of our team members into account and had an
understanding that we would be impacting our team members financially, yet he was able to propose
and get the above-mentioned re-structure approved was justice. During the time of the pandemic we
are currently in, I am more than fortunate to be working under a leader such as Ricky.
