Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
Vaccination: Human Papillomavirus
Trade name: Gardisil
Type of vaccination: Non-infectious recombinant vaccine, inactivated
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity reaction to vaccine, including sensitivity to yeast
Precautions: Moderate or severe acute illness, vaccine can cause syncope
in some
patients after administration, have the patient lie supine or trendelenberg position.
Adverse Drug Reactions: Pain, redness, and swelling at the injection site, myalgias,
arthralgias, syncope
Minimum age to receive vaccine: 9 years old to 45 years old
Routine recommended vaccine schedule (time and dose): 3 dose regimen, 0.5 ml
given at 0, 2, and 6 months
Special situations: HPV is not recommended for use during pregnancy

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to the vaccine or any of its components, history of
intussusception and severe combined immunodeficiency disease (SCID), infants with

malignant neoplasms, or infants on immunosuppressive therapy.
