One limitation of the psychodynamic approach is Freud’s case study
method. Freud’s theory was based off of intensive studies on people who
were often in therapy, like Little Hans for example. His methods were
highly detailed and carefully recorded, however critics have suggested
that it is impossible to make such widespread claims about human nature
based off of the study on a small number of individuals who were all
psychologically abnormal in there own, unique ways. Freud’s methods
were also highly subjective, and it is highly unlikely, in the case of Little
Hans, that other researches would have drawn up the same conclusions.
Comparing this to other approaches, Freud’s methods lack scientific
diligence, therefore suggesting that it is an incomplete explanation on the
human mind and behaviour.
Question 3:
Emily may not have seemed upset after failing her ballet exam, as she was
repressing her emotions. Deep down, she was most likely very upset,
however there may be an element of embarrassment or anger towards
herself after failing the exam which she does not want to become
physically apparent. She is forcing the situation out of her conscious mind,
so that she does not seem visibly upset.

In the psychodynamic approach, the superego occurs at the end of the
phallic stage, which is around the age of 5. The superego is our
psychological sense of right and wrong, and gives off punishment towards
the ego for wrongdoing, through guilt.
