There is so much going on in the world today. Learning to be a global citizen is what will help to
make communities and the world stronger economically. There are countries that have starving
children and sleeping in the slum streets of their communities. Global citizens help to make sure
that they are doing what they need to do t help assist the world around them. In this paper, there
will be discussions about what globalism is and how it differs from globalization, my personal
opinions on how being a global citizen benefits my personal development, and how some general
education courses has influenced me to become a better global citizen.
“Globalism” and “Globalization”
Based on the video “Globalization at a Crossroads”, it is clear that whatour society needs
is globalization. Globalization is where countries around the workdexchange goods and services.
There are many things that come from China that are needed in the United States. “The
economic processes of globalization can be split 2 broad categories; free trade and financial
globalization”(Stucke, 2009). When discussing free trade it is when countries open up the
markets the tr5ade with others. This can create economic growth throughout the world. Financial
globalization deals with the money side like investments and stocks. Globalism is when people
plan foreign policies that work on a global basis. It controls the capitol of the market exchange.

Being a global citizen in a world of advanced technology is beneficial to a person’s
success in many ways. As an educator, it can be beneficial in order to meet the needs of the
