Analyse the information in the class summary. What are your learners’ strengths and weaknesses?
(max. 100 words)
According to the information provided by the class summary, on a class level the student’s biggest strength is in reading,
where most of them have a band score of 7 grade. However their listening, writing and speaking skills are poor as they all
averages below band 6, with writing being slightly higher with an average band score of 5.8 while listening and Speaking are
both averaging to a band score of 5.75 stipulating that the two are areas of improvement.

Which two skills have you chosen to teach in this lesson? Why? (minimum 150 words)

After analyzing the class summary, for this particular lesson I have decided to teach speaking and listening skills as they pose
to be the two areas of concern and a priority to be enhanced. The class average is 5.75 band grade for listening and
speaking, which is significantly lower than reading and writing scores hence in need of improvement the most for most of the
students. The IELTS final grade is weighted on a combination of all four of the different skills’ band grades, therefore it is
imperative to strengthen weaker areas of concern. Furthermore these two skills are vital for good communication as students
use speaking and listening to communicate, solve problems, speculate, share ideas, make decisions and reflect on what is
important. Social relations in the classroom and real world, depend on students’ confidence in their communication skills.
Teaching basic speaking and listening skills has a key role in all subjects, areas of learning, studying towards a profession,
and the world of work, as for any conversation knowing when to speak – and when to listen is essential. .

,Which lesson topic have you chosen? Why? (minimum 100 words)

For this lesson , I have chosen to teach the health and fitness topic rather than work ,education and the environment
because I believe that almost everyone has some knowledge, interests and opinions in this subject. It is a popular topic that
is applicable to the lives of both young and old as everyone strives for optimum wellness and quality of life. Furthermore,
health, in particular ill-health is something we all have to deal with at some point in our lives, so having the necessary skills
to discuss health is important.

Health and fitness comes up regularly in the IELTS exam so it is a good idea for students to learn some common health
vocabulary. In the IELTS speaking exam, students may be asked questions about fitness, health, staying well and looking
after yourself. This is a really popular topic which encompasses a wide range of themes from sport, to diet, to health and
how to educate people about being healthier. To score high marks and to be confident going into the IELTS speaking
exam, students need a great range of specific and high-level vocabulary.

This lesson will expose learners to functional health knowledge, and strengthen their attitudes and beliefs towards healthy
behaviors throughout their lives. Additionally due to he current ongoing pandemic, health and fitness is an especially
imperative subject now as it has been a high-trending topic with a great deal of information both factual and nonsense
being shared online and in media hence it is important to give students the vocabulary and be able to talk and discuss
ideas, opinions and help to dissect and understand facts. To add a cherry on top ,Ana who has specified she wants to
become a nurse in the UK, thus making the topic on health even more relevant.
