ASSIGNMENT 3

, QUESTION 1
1.1. Give the analyses of the two dominant systems you would wish to install
in your workshop.
Mechanical system - mechanical lifting devices are used to apply great
forces or lift heavy loads. A mechanical jack uses a screw thread for lifting
heavy equipment.
Hydraulic system- Hydraulic lifts can move cars upward when a pump in their
structure pushes a liquid from a fluid container to a hollow cylinder. As the
cylinder fills with the liquid, a piston component inside it is forced to move
upward, which generates the movement of the lift.
1.2. State with reasons the difference that exist between the systems in 1.1.
The force generated in the hydraulic braking system is higher when
compared to the mechanical braking system. Mechanical uses cable,
hydraulics uses fluid.
1.3. Which system in 1.1 mostly applicable to the car breaks?
Hydraulic system
1.4. Describe the process of fitting the braking systems in a car.
Step 1- loosen the lugs and raise the care
Step 2- remove the wheel, brake callipers and rotor.
Step 3 – assemble carrier, install pods and new break callipers.
Step – 4 put the wheel back on and ensure that the lugs are tight enough.
1.5. As in 1.4, why is it so important to have all traces of air eliminated from
the system?
This is necessary because, they in turn press the pads into the brake rotors to
slow or stop the vehicle. Air is much less dense when compared to the brake
fluid. This means if air is in the lines, it will compress too easily. When this
happens, your brakes will feel too soft or even spongy.
1.6. Evaluate in not less than 8 points how you will ensure safety rules on the
use of tools in your workshop.
1. Wear the proper safety gear or equipment for the job.
2. handle heavy machinery with care and take extra precautions.
3. Make sure that the cutting tools are sharp because unsharpened tool need
more strength and might cause injuries.
4. Keep your tools in good condition.
